Exactly my first and second thought upon seeing that pic.

I’m sorry, we don’t have any hipster independent coffee shops serving organic gluten-free non-slave labor pro Union lattes with a splash of pretentiousness and two extra pumps of SJW.

That’s really unfortunate

Is it really that bad in the US when it comes to coffee? Starbucks or hipster independent coffee shops is the only option. As an European and coffee drinker this baffles my mind, is it a middle ground, are all independent coffee shops only used by hipsters.

Lol if you don’t have a coffee identity.

I was in Paris this time last year with my wife - that country ruined coffee for me. After coming back to the US, I look at our coffee with great disdain.

Too much black. No contrast anywhere.

It depends where you are. In a lot of suburbs, the hipster ones are the only alternative to Starbucks, but not everywhere. I’m fortunate enough to have several cool options around me. The one that I go to most often is in a small town half an hour down the road with a guy in camouflage and a trucker hat pulling espresso for hunters before they head into the woods for the day. There is also one right down the street from the closest Starbucks that is more of a hippie/punk/LGBTQ hangout that also has really good fruit smoothies. Finally there is one that is damn expensive and frequented mostly by lawyers and doctors that I rarely go to but has some of the best small batch roasts that I’ve ever had. Last time I went there was an R8 V10 in the lot.

I love these things. The only one I’ve seen in the wild was a silver one on the highway being driven by an older lady at about 10 under the speed limit. I was disappoint.

The coffee I had in Paris was good, but sometimes I just want an America-sized cup of black drip coffee. My preference in France was the cafe creme (I’d put in the accents but my keyboard doesn’t have a numpad).
That said, my favourite European coffee shops are in Amsterdam.

I don’t think I’ve met a person in real life that hates Starbucks with the same zeal of those online. I don’t like their overly sugary/milky drinks that pass for coffee (they’re more like desserts/treats at that point) but it’s the best choice for a good, black drip coffee in cities that haven’t reached a saturation of indie coffee joints. Around here, you pretty much have a choice of Starbucks or Tim Hortons, and the extra money you pay (which is probably around 70 cents or so) is well worth it.

It is quite evil. Black on black on black fits that car to a “T”.

Why yes, I DO live in one of those neighborhoods! The houses aren’t quite as cookie cutter as those, though.
Nice diversity, great schools, rising property value, semi-rural, lots of amenities... Just no coffee shops like the one described above (nor hipsters).

Just poking fun. Hipster coffee can be overrated, anyways. Cities wouldn’t survive without suburbs.

Oh, I didn’t take your comment seriously. :) No worries.
We do, however, need more good restaurants.
